Ever had the cold, “i just got played” feeling ever?? The feeling you get after you finally realize that the trust you put into someone, something has failed you and you vow to yourself to never let yourself fall victim to that same sequence of events again? Before you start to think this is some deep, intellectually stimulating, life-rationalizing post, let me tell you that it is not. This post has entirely everything to do with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, of which I’m a proud graduate of. I have suffered through 4 years of Reggie “Friggin'” Ball, and never has it been worse that it is now. I have suffered and been devastated by 5 years of Chain Gailey’s coaching. I know that I am not the only fed up GT fan. We are slowly growing in strength and numbers. We have been played, we have been bamboozled, we have been misled and duped into believing that our QB could play decent enough and that maybe our coach could actually do a decent job. We were led astray, we were made to believe lies, lies, and more lies (although I wouldn’t mind George O’ Leary coming back to the Flats – even with the lies he had on his resume – ironically enough). The defense has been outstanding the last 4 years and that is largely due to Jon Tenuta. The defense time and time again has carried this team and been let down by the offense, QB, and coaching staff. My hats go off to the defense who have never lost focus, even knowing that their inept offense would put even more pressure on them.
Neither our coach nor our QB has beat Georgia in their GT careers. And to be frank and honest, we should have won each of the games the past 3 years, only to see our games sabotaged and undermined by horrendous QB play and decision making and insufficient and ineffective coaching. How can you have one of the most dynamic players on offense (#21 is a beast – can you imagine him playing with a competent quarterback??? His 3 years here resemble a modern day Shakespearen tragedy) and yet fail to show any offensive consistency week to week??? I look forward to the Yellow Jackets getting spanked by the West Virginia Volunteers and their spread option offense in the upcoming bowl game. I feel then, just maybe, the AD of Georgia Tech will finally understand that the coach will not step up the GT football program to an elite level and that the performance at the QB position is unacceptable. The GT contingency deserves a championship level team, a team that can contend for the ACC every year, contend for the national title every 5 years, and beat UGA 2 out of every 3 years. There is no excuse. The fact that our academic standards are higher than most schools doesn’t and shouldn’t matter – we won a national title in 1990 and still get some of the top collegiate athletes to play on the Flats every Saturday. Disappointment is something we Tech fans have become far too accustomed to over the past 5 years. The Ramblin’ Wreck stops here, changes HAVE to be made, and made soon.
